Christmas Planning Checklist 2026: Week by Week From October

Christmas 2026 is on a Friday, and the shopping window is shorter than it looks. Gifts that are made to order, shipped by parcel or sent overseas need weeks, not days. The good news is that a few small jobs done in the right week make December much calmer.

Here’s a week-by-week plan from mid-October to Christmas Day. It assumes made-to-order gifts and uses the production and shipping times from our order-by guide.

October: decide and write it down

Oct 15 to 25: set the budget and the list

  • Write down everyone you give to: family, friends, teachers, coworkers, the neighbor who waters your plants.
  • Set one total budget, then a rough amount per person. A single number you can see keeps the season from creeping upward.
  • Mark the people who live far away. They need the earliest orders.

A printed gift list makes this easier. Our free gift budget tracker is one page, and the 9-page Christmas Planner 2026 adds a card list, a calendar and an order tracker.

Oct 26 to 31: pick the gift type for each person

Choose by person, not by product. Ask what they’d use weekly. If you’re stuck, our 6-question gift decision guide takes about two minutes. A small gift that gets used beats an impressive one that doesn’t.

November: order what has to travel

Nov 1 to 15: order for people abroad and any large items

For parcels crossing a border, our published estimate is 3 to 5 business days of production plus 6 to 12 business days of shipping, and customs can add more. For a Dec 24 delivery abroad, we suggest ordering mugs and other accessories by Fri, Nov 27 and apparel by Tue, Dec 1. Earlier is safer, and November is the month to do it.

  • Order blankets and other bulky items in the first half of the month.
  • If an item needs a size, check it first with the size finder. Made-to-order items can’t be returned for a wrong size.

Blankets need no sizing, which makes them an easy gift to order early.

Nov 16 to 25: order for the US, plan the group gifts

  • Start a Secret Santa if your family or office does one. Our Secret Santa guide has rules and a timeline, and the free organizer printable has sign-up and budget lines.
  • Check your budget list against what you’ve ordered so far.

Thanksgiving week: Nov 23 to 27

Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov 26. Carriers get busier from this week onward, so if you still have orders going abroad, place them by Wed, Nov 25 rather than waiting for the Nov 27 date. Don’t use the holiday weekend to start your shopping. Use it to check what’s done.

December: finish, wrap and send

Dec 1 to 7: the comfortable US deadline

For delivery by Dec 24, our comfortable US order-by date is Mon, Dec 7 for mugs, blankets and other accessories and Wed, Dec 9 for apparel. This is the last week to relax. After it, you’re relying on the faster end of every estimate.

  • Order wrapping paper with the gifts, since it’s the thing most people forget.
  • Write and send holiday cards. Use the card list in your planner so no one is left out.

Dec 8 to 16: the last-chance window

Wed, Dec 16 is the last-chance date for US delivery by Dec 24, and it assumes nothing goes wrong. We wouldn’t plan to it. If a gift matters, order it earlier.

Dec 17 to 24: wrap, label and relax

  • Tick off the orders you’ve received. Use the order tracker page to spot any parcel that hasn’t moved.
  • Wrap in batches, with a pen and tags on hand.
  • Keep one or two small gifts in reserve for surprise guests. A soy candle or a ceramic ornament works.

The one-page version

  1. Mid-October: budget and list.
  2. Late October: choose a gift for each person.
  3. November: order for people abroad, then everyone else.
  4. By Dec 7: finish US orders.
  5. Dec 17 onward: wrap and relax.

These dates are estimates and carriers are unpredictable in December. If you want to check a date for your own address, the delivery estimator does the counting for you.
