“When do I need to order?” is the most common gift question in November, and the honest answer is: earlier than it feels. Made-to-order gifts have two clocks running, production and shipping, and both add up before anything reaches your door.
Here is how we think about it, followed by a free calendar you can print and stick on the fridge.
The rule of thumb
Every item on our site is made to order. Counting in business days:
- Production: 3 to 5 business days, plus about 2 extra days of cushion for items that aren’t apparel.
- US shipping: 3 to 6 business days.
- International shipping: 6 to 12 business days.
Add them up and work backwards from the day you need the gift in hand. That’s your order-by date.
Three kinds of shoppers, three dates
The planner: you want it by Dec 18
Perfect for office exchanges and early family parties. Using the rule above, order by:
- US accessories, mugs and ornaments: Tue, Dec 1
- US apparel: Thu, Dec 3
- International accessories: Mon, Nov 23
- International apparel: Wed, Nov 25
The just-in-time shopper: you want it by Dec 23
Two days before Christmas still works, if you commit early in the month:
- US accessories, mugs and ornaments: Fri, Dec 4
- US apparel: Tue, Dec 8
- International accessories: Thu, Nov 26 (Thanksgiving, so treat Wed, Nov 25 as your real deadline)
- International apparel: Mon, Nov 30

The sender abroad
If the gift is crossing a border, give yourself the most room. International delivery takes longer and customs can add days. Import duties and taxes, where they apply, are the recipient’s responsibility. For a December gift, the safest move is ordering before Thanksgiving.
These dates are estimates
Carriers get busy in December, and a weather delay can shift a parcel by days. Treat the dates as the latest sensible day, not a guarantee, and add a few days if the gift really matters. Our delivery date estimator lets you enter your own date and destination.

Use the calendar
The Christmas 2026 Order-By Calendar (PDF) puts November and December on one page, marks each deadline with a letter, and has space for your gift list. Print it, write names next to the dates, and tick them off as you order.

Gifting for the new year as well? A 2027 wall calendar is a good one to add to the same order.
You can link to the calendar from your blog or newsletter if you think others would find it useful. Please link to the page, not the file.
