Sticker shopping throws around two terms that sound like jargon: kiss-cut and die-cut. The difference is simple, and it affects how a sticker peels, how it ships and how it looks on a laptop. Here is what kiss-cut vs die-cut stickers actually means.

What is a die-cut sticker?

A die-cut sticker is cut all the way through, both the printed vinyl and the backing paper, along the outline of the design. You end up with a single piece in the exact shape of the artwork, backing and all. It looks clean and custom, but you have to peel it from a backing that matches its shape.

What is a kiss-cut sticker?

A kiss-cut sticker is cut only through the top layer of vinyl. The backing sheet stays whole, so the sticker sits on a rectangular or square backing and peels off cleanly. The name comes from the light touch of the blade, which gently kisses the surface instead of cutting through.

How to apply a sticker without bubbles

  1. Clean and dry the surface first.
  2. Peel the sticker slowly from the backing.

  4. Smooth the whole sticker with a soft, clean cloth.

The adhesive is permanent, so place it carefully. To clean the sticker, gently brush dust off with a soft, dry cloth from the center outward.
